A cardigan sweater was really just a cape or a poncho with sleeves. This is probably where the guys at Snuggie came up with the idea for their “blanket with sleeves” concept. Well wearing the lastest cardigan sweaters look a heck of a lot better than walking around in a Snuggie, am I right?!

Not just for adding warmth anymore, cardigan sweaters for women are a great way to add layers to your outfit, which is extremely fashionable this season.

Cardigan sweaters for women really run the gamut these days. From heavy wool ones with a large zipper down the front, to a silk lacy one that barely fastens at all. True, that’s not really a “sweater”, but it is a type of cardigan. Like I said, sexy.

But sticking with the sweater family, there are some adorable baby doll cut cardigan sweaters that are cotton or cashmere that can be extremely sexy over a snug tank top or a satin chemise. There’s nothing matronly about that!!

A lot of younger women stay away from cardigan sweaters perhaps because it reminds them of their mother or their old fifth grade teacher.

Well all one needs to do is open any of the trendy fashion magazines and they’ll see that today’s cardigan sweaters for women are being designed for today’s woman. Celebrities, models, beautiful women the world over have all learned that the right cardigan sweater can be a perfect addition to many different outfits.

A form fitting cashmere cardigan with some gorgeous beading can be worn to a more formal affair and that same cashmere cardigan will also go smashingly with one’s favorite pair of comfy jeans. How many articles of clothing can you say THAT about?

However, I wouldn’t try wearing your Merino wool cardigan sweater decorated with Christmas trees (with silver jingle bells sewn on!) the next time you slip into your Vera Wang cocktail dress! But then I assume if you have a Vera Wang cocktail dress you probably DON’T have a Christmas themed sweater!
